Lilac Lungs – Uh Oh (Track Of The Day, 20th April)

Our Track Of The Day is the very freshly released “Uh Oh” from the ever magical four piece that is Lilac Lungs. “Uh Oh” is the third track on the band’s upcoming album Eventide, releasing on 12th May.

When we first heard “Uh Oh” while reviewing the beautiful Eventide, we found that it was surprisingly upbeat for a song which shared lyrics relating to a troubled home. Emily sings the questions and confusions of a child in a family where the monsters aren’t in the stories, but are the ones that tuck you in at night. There’s wonderings about belongingness and where life will take the children in this scenario.

The Detroit-based collective of Emily Torres, Johney Birrell, Matt Jones and Terrance Elizondo also bring an upbeat energy to the video for “Uh Oh”, and I found this to add even more depth to the song and what it’s sharing. The video shows Emily singing, huddled within a shelter. She’s alone in the dark, riding out this metaphorical storm, the doors rattling and shaking in the wildness going on. Johney, Matt and Terrance are then shown helping her out of the shelter and into the light, and the playing of music together freely and safely out in the open feels like the belongingness that the lyrics had wondered about.

It’s a beautiful thing that Lilac Lungs carry this ‘we are your tribe and you belong’ energy for each other, as well as their passionate fanbase.
